Residents of Agbor communities would now have one less kidnap gang to worry about as the operatives of the Delta State Police Command last weekend silenced a six man kidnapping gang which has been terrorizing the area in recent times.
Prior to the death of the criminals, they were alleged to have engaged in series of kidnapping and their most recent mission was the kidnap of a young man whom they released with a ransom of #1.2 Million having robbed the victim and his wife of their belongings.
According to the report presented by the Delta State Commissioner of Police, on 16th of February, 2018, at about 1800hrs, the victim came back from work alongside his wife in his Toyota Highlander Jeep and as he was about driving into his compound, five unknown armed men attacked them, robbed them of their phones, small Ecolax box containing his clothes, shoes and his wife’s handbag and whisked him away in his vehicle to an unknown destination. The kidnappers later called the victim’s family for ransom and the sum of One million, two hundred thousand naira (N1.2m) was paid, and subsequently, on 20/02/2018, the victim was released.
However, on the 20th of February, 2018 the victim’s wife sighted and identified her husband’s cloth and shoes being worn by one Chima Ugwu Chekubechukwu whom she also identified as one of the kidnappers that kidnapped her husband on the date of the incident and reported the matter to the police who swung into action and the suspect was arrested. During a search conducted on him, the victim’s Huawei phone, Samsung and other personal properties were recovered from him. The suspect confessed to the crime and led the security operatives to arrest other suspected members of his gang who unfortunately lost their lives in a gun battle with the police in an attempt to escape.
The news of their death which went round the town like wide fire had some members of the public expressed shock to know that two among the dead identified as Kenneth also known as ‘Small Motor’ and Obialije also known as ‘OBJ’ were members of a kidnapping gang in Agbor.
As at the time of filing this report, the corpses of the gang members have been deposited in a morgue
