IKA WEEKLY NEWSPAPER is a Media/News Organization and the Publishing House of Ika Weekly Newspaper; the number one weekly community newspaper in Ika land, based in Agbor, Delta State, Nigeria that disseminates mainly news and information on the Ika Nation, and Nigeria on a global perspective.
IKA WEEKLY NEWSPAPER was established by Mr. Steve Ekiri-Mekiriuwa Ashien. He is from Agbor in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State –Nigeria. The idea of a community newspaper was first conceived and actualised in 1989. The maiden edition of IKA WEEKLY NEWSPAPER hit the news stand as a weekly newspaper on Sunday June 9th, 1989. Unfortunately, this was short lived, as the newspaper vanished from the newsstand as a result of unforeseen challenges, after about twelve weeks publications.
However, in the spirit of determination and courage, after about twenty years of being out of circulation, IKA WEEKLY NEWSPAPER, the paper of the people, by the people and for the people resurfaced on the news stand in April 2007 with the motto: Bridging information gap.
IKA WEEKLY NEWSPAPER just recently celebrated a decade of consistent and objective journalism.
Over the years, IKA WEEKLY NEWSPAPER has grown to become one of the leading community newspapers in Delta State –Nigeria. The paper is an authoritative reference point and a household name in Ika land, as well as among Ika sons and daughters in the Diaspora. This is as a result of the newspaper’s objective, refreshing, informative and entertaining features.
In pursuit of the accomplishment of its aim and objective of being a catalyst for a better society, IKA WEEKLY NEWSPAPER has successfully over the years appreciated distinguished Ika indigenes that have made Ika nation proud through the highly esteemed annual IKA WEEKLY NEWSPAPER DISTINGUISHED PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR AWARD.
